Poetry Notebook Project
We have been doing poetry throughout the book, Love That Dog by Sharon Creech. In the book, Jack learns to love poetry, and
responds in free verse in his conversation with his teacher using a
journal. As we wrap up the unit on Love That Dog, we will be writing our
own poetry. You will be required to
write 10 poems in this Poetry notebook project.
You can also find these instructions on my blog (www.treymcqueen.blogspot.com). We will discuss and write each of these poems
in class and you will be allowed to
type them if you wish at home. The following
poems should be in the notebook in order as follows:

Instructions:
1. You will do 10 poems. I will teach each
poem in class and then you will work on your poem. **If you are absent on the day I teach the poem,
you will need to refer to the poetry packet to write it on your own. I will need to see the poetry before the
final draft is completed**
2. You will turn in your rough
drafts daily. The rough drafts will be
returned to you either that day or the next day to make final drafts.
3. The final drafts will have a
page decorated with each poem. The
illustrations should reflect what the poem is about. These can be clipart, colored illustrations,
or your own artwork, and they may be on the same page as your poem.

written on unlined paper or construction paper.
Be creative with the fonts and color.
