Poetry Notebook

Poetry Notebook Project

We have been doing poetry throughout the book, Love That Dog by Sharon Creech.  In the book, Jack learns to love poetry, and responds in free verse in his conversation with his teacher using a journal.  As we wrap up the unit on Love That Dog, we will be writing our own poetry.  You will be required to write 10 poems in this Poetry notebook project.  You can also find these instructions on my blog (www.treymcqueen.blogspot.com).  We will discuss and write each of these poems in class and you will be allowed to type them if you wish at home.  The following poems should be in the notebook in order as follows:

1.       Autobiography Poem
2.      Adjective Poem
3.      Acrostic
4.      Diamante
5.      Shape/Concrete Poem
6.      Cinquain
7.      Haiku
8.      5 W’s Poem
9.      Alliteration
10.  Sensory Poem
Requirements and Instructions:
1.        You will do 10 poems.  I will teach each poem in class and then you will work on your poem.  **If you are absent on the day I teach the poem, you will need to refer to the poetry packet to write it on your own.  I will need to see the poetry before the final draft is completed**
2.       You will turn in your rough drafts daily.  The rough drafts will be returned to you either that day or the next day to make final drafts.
3.       The final drafts will have a page decorated with each poem.  The illustrations should reflect what the poem is about.  These can be clipart, colored illustrations, or your own artwork, and they may be on the same page as your poem.
4.       Poems may be typed or NEATLY written on unlined paper or construction paper.  Be creative with the fonts and color.  I must be able to read it!
5.       Please refer to the attached rubric to see how you will be graded!
6.       Your folder (3 prong folder) with the final drafts and this page signed by you and your parent are due _________________________ by the end of class.
*****Most of this should be completed in class with the exception of being absent or typing your final drafts at home.  Please do not work on this at home unless given special permission to do so!!  The consequence will be that it will be REDONE in class!
